About The Mid-South Area Robotics Society

Known as TMARS, we are a group of local Robotics Enthusiasts who meet for robotic related activities.

TMARS is open to anyone who has an interest in robots. Mechanical or artistic, programmed or remote controlled, science fiction or real. Whatever your interest, this is the group for you.

Our members are involved in the DARPA Urban Challenge, Trinity College Fire Fighting Home Robot Contest, Battle Bots, Lego League and other well-known robotic events.

What do you picture when you hear the word "robot"?

Perhaps a clever mechanical man? Perhaps R2D2 or C3PO from the movie Star Wars? Perhaps you envision a battle bot engaged in mortal combat.

Put quite simply, a robot is any electro-mechanical device that ,by its appearance or movements, conveys a sense that it has an intelligence of its own.

While there is still discussion about which machines qualify as robots, a typical robot will have some of the following properties:

  • It has been artificially created.
  • It can sense its environment.
  • It can manipulate things in its environment.
  • It has the ability to make choices based on the environment.
  • It is programmable.

Our prime objective is to toss around ideas, be creative, artistic, and have fun.
